CLINICAL OBSERVATION OF 12CASES OF CRANIOSYNOSTOSIS

Abstract
Craniosynostosis is not uncommon in its incidence. It is not difficult to diagnosis, but is missed easily at local clinics or out-patient departments in Korea.
Complications of craniosynostosis are very serious and often fatal. Twelve cases of craniosynostosis observed from Jan. 1960 to Dec. 1970 at Severance Hospital were presented. There were 10 male and 2 female patients. Only 5 patients were under 6 months of age.
Of 12 cases, 4 replied to our follow-up check.
Two patients, one diagnosed at 6 months of age and another at 20 months of age, had received craniectomy and had died.
One found at 2 months of age, had received craniectomy and was alive with sequelaes; unable to stand and speech disturbance.
One found at 1 year-old age, had not received craniectomy and had serious complications of blindness, deafness, no speech (aphasia), unable to sit and convulsions.
The early diagnosis and early operation is re-emphasized. A literature review was made on this subject.
